Crockpot Baked Ziti

Crock pot recipes are my favorite. They usually require very little preparation. You can throw them together, set the slow cooker, and get on with your day.

This crock pot ziti follows all of these rules. It’s easy, delicious, and requires very little preparation. On a busy day or week around our house, it is one of my must make recipes.

I usually use lean ground beef in my recipes. You can sub out the ground beef for chicken if you prefer. If I am really looking to cut down the time it takes to put this recipe together, I will substitute the ground beef for a meat sauce. Other times to save time, I’ve made this in a vegetarian version and cut out the meat completely.

How to Make Baked Ziti in a Crockpot

First, if you are using ground beef, you will want to cook the beef in a skillet with the onions until the meat is no longer pink.

After, drain meat if needed. Then, add in the garlic, basil, oregano, and salt and pepper to taste and stir it all together. Cook in the new ingredients for about 1 minute more, stirring it constantly. Then, in the same pan, stir in 1 of the jars of pasta sauce.

Using the remaining jar of pasta sauce, pour half a jar in the bottom of the slow cooker and add half of the uncooked ziti pasta on top of it.

Next, pour half of the meat mixture on top of the pasta. Then, top the meat mixture with the ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese and 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese. Add another layer of uncooked ziti pasta.

On top of this layer, add the remaining half jar of pasta sauce and then cover it with the remaining meat mixture.

Place the lid on the crock pot. Cook this on low for 6 hours. Then, 15 minutes before serving add the last 1 cup of mozzarella to the top. Place the lid back on the slow cooker and let the mozzarella cheese melt.

Here’s a little trick for you: before starting the steps above, spray the slow cooker with cooking spray to make clean up easier!

HOW TO REHEAT

Crockpot baked ziti tends to reheat in the microwave really well! Just cover it up and put it in the microwave for a few minutes!

What to Serve with Crockpot Baked Ziti

We can’t have pasta without mentioning bread, can we? I love to have garlic toast or a baguette of some kind with this dish. If I’m honest, I think I get just as excited about garlic bread as I do about the pasta itself! Anyone else with me on that one?

I also love to serve a big, fresh side salad with any pasta dish. It’s perfect for adding in extra veggies and greens, and I think a salad is always a nice compliment to a pasta dish. I like to leave my salad undressed and let each person choose their dressing.

In my opinion, crock pot baked ziti is just as good as the oven baked ziti and takes much less preparation! I love making anything I can in my crock pot, because I can throw it together, set it, and go! This is one of my all time favorite crock pot recipes and I hope it’ll be one of your’s as well.
